This artifact is a Complex Program as part of the Task Series from my student teaching placement at the Conductive Learning Center. It is a free sitting program from the Elementary/Young Adult group I worked with. I believe this shows a strength in my ability to see the needs of each child individually in order to ensure that each child is able to reach their goals.
Some of the tasks I included had been in the previous program for this group, but I was responsible for updating the program, creating new tasks, and adding and/or changing the differentiations in each task. Once the group goals for the program have been identified, tasks are created in order for the children to be able to meet those goals. From there, the tasks are differentiated for each child's individual needs in order for them to make the most progress. The program is usually not finalized until the end of the first week of the session, and even then it can still change as the child develops. For the first day of the session, I used the complex program from this group's previous session as a starting point. At the end of the day, I discussed the program with the other conductor-teachers and we decided to change several of the tasks. After rewriting the tasks, I had write the differentiations for each child for each task. This was process of trial, observation, and assessment until the best differentiation is found--which is why it sometimes takes a few days.
I believe this shows a strong understanding of individual differences that facilitate learner achievement because in writing this complex program, I had to understand the needs of the group and the needs of each child through every step. This work was not graded, but the program was approved by the conductor-teachers I worked with in my group, as well as by the Program Director of the CLC. One thing that I will continue to work on regarding learning differences is making sure my plan is implemented correctly, especially at the beginning of the session, I think I did well in writing the goals and differentiations, but sometimes fell short on making sure they were being met while leading the program.
