This artifact is an informal plan that I created for a science unit for my second grade placement at Palmer elementary. The school uses a district-wide curriculum for science, which is where I got some of the lesson ideas. There was not a lot of time left in the school year, so I drastically had to change the district plans in order to fit the time constraints. I chose a few ideas for lessons that I thought would engage the students the most and still be able to meet the state standards. This shows my ability to create authentic learning opportunities which engages students in creative and collaborative problem solving and encourages critical thinking.
One thing I would have liked to change was the timing of this unit. I found that the students really liked the experiments that I had planned and seemed very interested in the topic, but the unit and each lesson felt so rushed in order to be able to fit it all in. I think I did well to relate each lesson to the background knowledge of the students. I did not turn this plan in to my cooperating teacher, but she gave me great overall feedback.
