The document above was my first personal philosophy of education, which I completed on December 11, 2011, as part of a Foundations of Education course. In the years following, I have also written personal philosophies for classroom management, assessment, and physical education. Although my personal philosophy of education is constantly being modified, I see that many of my ideas and thoughts from this first draft still remain true. I still see myself as a pragmatic teacher, searching to provide an environment where students are able to make the most growth. I am constantly changing and adapting my classroom management style, because I have yet to find the magical solution, but it involves a combination of Love and Logic, Restitution, and Responsible Thinking Process. The biggest similarity of this philosophy compared to how I feel now is that a philosophy of education needs to be dynamic, changing to meet the needs of the teacher as well as the students. Even if a teacher has the best philosophy and it works amazingly one year, when new students come the next year, it might not work at all. If a philosophy only works for the teacher, it does not work. We always need to be thinking about what is going to allow the students to make the most growth. The greatest job for a teacher is providing a safe and encouraging environment where students are able to become productive, self-disciplined, and knowledgeable members of this world.
